It is hard to believe that the month of October is here!
The most magical time of the whitetail hunting year is just around the corner.
Today, I want to re-cap our hunting season so far and share our strategies for the month of October.
The early archery season here in Florida started back in the middle of September and will close here in the next couple of weeks.
We enjoyed some success in the archery season and learned many things that we will apply to next year.
Our focus now is on the upcoming muzzleloader season.
Dad actually has a muzzleloader hunt at a local WMA that started Tuesday and ends today. He has seen a few doe but no bucks. However, it is always a learning experience and he is gaining new knowledge of this piece of land with every hunt.
We also have two weekends of muzzleloader hunting on another of our favorite WMA’s coming up the 19th and 26th of October.
This past Saturday we spent several hours hiking back into a very remote area of this property and hanging a stand. We are super excited about getting back into this spot.
If deer tracks and huge rubs are any indication of the type of hunt we are going to enjoy then we are in for a great time!
I actually purchased a deer cart this week in anticipation of dragging a monster out of there!
Either way, we are going to learn something new that we can apply to next year. This is really the key to being more successful as a hunter. You have to continue to learn new things by trying new things.
Explore new areas.
Go all in!
Do not get stuck in the habit of hunting the same stands that you have always hunted if you are not seeing the results you want.
Many of the things that we are going to do during this muzzleloader season are a result of information that we gained during last year’s season and new areas that we explored during the off-season.
I am also excited about hunting a particular stand that has been haunting me the last two years, literally! I have hunted it on October 31st the past two muzzleloader seasons.
I will write more about those two hunts in the next couple of weeks and how I hope that this year will finally be different.
Question: Have you ever hunted with a muzzleloader? What do you enjoy about pursuing deer with this weapon? What are your strategies for muzzleloader season?
